Blue Star aims to make dumpster rentals as simple and fast as possible. At the same time, you should know some things so you avoid the unexpected. Here’s what to know about dumpster rentals: 1. How much do dumpster rentals cost? Expect to pay no more than $500, which is competitive with other affordable dumpster rentals. The difference with Blue Star is that you get service from a local company that prides itself on having a spotless reputation. That means you get prompt answers to your questions. You’ll also get your dumpster the next day as promised. And you only pay exactly as quoted. 2. Can additional fees apply? Yes. But only if you don’t use your dumpster rental the way you should. All the fees are below so you can understand and follow the expectations and avoid any of the fees. Additional fees may apply if you: Keep your dumpster rental more than 10 days Overfill your dumpster (more on that in question #3) Put material in your dumpster rental that you shouldn’t (further detail in question #4) Call for a pickup but aren’t ready Block the path to your dumpster rental so our driver can’t access it Cancel your dumpster rental with less than 24 hours’ notice If you stay within those guidelines, however, you won’t have to pay any additional fees. 3. How can I avoid overfilling my dumpster rental? It’s not as tricky as it seems at first. Look at how you’re disposing of material to judge this. If you only have to walk and toss stuff in your dumpster rental, you can get away with a smaller dumpster. If you have to use machinery to dispose of material, like a backhoe, then you should go with a larger dumpster. And in general, you should go with larger dumpster rentals in the first place. That’s because most homeowners tend to underestimate the size they need. And, it costs you more to get a smaller dumpster rental, have it picked up and emptied, and then get it delivered again than it does to just get a larger dumpster rental in the first place. 4. Is there anything I can’t put in my dumpster rental? We do have a strict (but simple) list of materials you can and can’t put in your dumpster rental. Here’s what you can put in your dumpster rental: Yard waste (grass, leaves, branches, and so on) Painted wood Stained wood Construction debris Household garbage Furniture Drywall (without asbestos) You may also be able to put the below materials in too. However, ask for approval first: Shingles Sod Dirt Concrete Cement Asphalt Brick Block Pavers Sand Gravel Do not put the below materials in your dumpster rental. Doing so will result in additional fees and fines: Tires of any kind Appliances Batteries Adhesives Food Drywall with asbestos Paint cans Chemical containers Liquid containers Car fluids Fuel Oil Car grease Biomedical waste Radioactive waste Fuel tanks Propane tanks Hazardous waste Animal waste Animal carcasses 5. Can I get my dumpster rental last minute? We can promise next day delivery for dumpster rentals. You may even get yours sooner than that, but this is not a promise. Sometimes, customers cancel their dumpster rentals. Then you get theirs. But, we can’t promise that. So, count on your’s arriving the next day. 6. Can dumpster rentals be placed on the road? Maybe. You need to call your local municipality to find out. More than likely, they’ll require a permit. You are responsible for having the permit necessary if that’s the case. 7. Do I need to do anything to prepare my property for my dumpster rental? Yes. First, you should have easy access to the area where you want to place yours. You should have plenty of room so our truck and a 20 or 30 cubic yard dumpster can make it through easily. Dumpster rentals need to be placed on a flat, level surface. And, if your dumpster rental will go in your driveway, you should have 4×8 foot sheets of plywood available to lay down for the dumpster to rest on. This protects your driveway from possible cracking. 8. Is Blue Star a broker? No. We do sometimes get customer referrals from brokers. But, we are 100% local to Dallas and operated in the Metroplex. That means you talk to a live person who wants to address your problems or concerns. And you don’t have to deal with being transferred around or being on hold for a long time. 9. Does Blue Star serve business/commercial customers with roll off dumpsters? Yes. We’re set up to deliver and pick up dumpsters from you location for weeks or months (whatever you need). If you need a roll-off dumpster, we’re more than happy to help. And you get the same great service as homeowners. Plus, you get to keep your dumpster for 10 days before additional usage fees apply. Get A Quote Questions Rockwall Residents and Businesses Frequently Ask about Dumpster Rentals Getting affordable dumpster rentals in Rockwall is easy. And at the same time, there are a few things to know about dumpster rentals. Here’s the most important stuff: 1. How much do dumpster rentals cost for Rockwall residents and businesses? Ours are affordable and compete with anyone else in the market. Expect to pay no more than $500 for your roll-off dumpster rental (businesses) or standard dumpster rental (consumers). Remember, you get much more than just an affordable price. You also get excellent service from a local company that takes great pride in providing it. We’re not an out-of-state broker. And you always understand your pricing up-front, with no games when you actually get your invoice. You get an affordable, fair cost. And you get great service too – at no additional cost! 2. What do I have to do to prepare for dumpster rentals? Not much. Your property needs a flat, level space for your dumpster rental to sit on. And you should throw down cheap 4×8-foot pieces of plywood so your driveway doesn’t get damaged by the dumpster. While we don’t want to damage your driveway, it’s ultimately your responsibility to protect it. If you don’t have a flat, level space on your property, you may be able to put your dumpster on the street. However, municipalities frequently have laws in place regarding that. So, you should call your local municipality and ask if you need a permit. If you run into any difficulties with any of this, please just call or text 214-495-1510 and we’re happy to help you! 3. How soon can I get a dumpster rental? You can get your next-day. We can’t promise you’ll get your dumpster rental if you call and want it at the last minute. Other customers might call and cancel. And you could get their dumpster. However, that’s not a guarantee. So, you’re best off planning ahead and calling as soon as you know so you can get your dumpster rental the day you want. 4. Do additional fees ever apply? Yes. It’s not our goal to trap you in a contract and find ways to hit you with more fees. But, certain situations can result in additional fees. Here’s what they are upfront, before you pay, so you understand and can avoid additional cost: You do pay additional fees if they keep their dumpster longer than 10 days If you overfill your dumpster, additional fees will apply Putting stuff in your dumpster that doesn’t belong there (specifics discussed below) may result in fines If you call for a pickup but aren’t ready, you will have to pay additional fees If our driver can’t get to your dumpster because stuff on your property blocks their path, additional fees will apply If you want to cancel your dumpster rental with less than 24 hours of notice That’s really about it. Avoid those things, and you have nothing to worry about. 5. What can I put in my affordable dumpster rental? Here’s a quick list: What you can put in: Grass, leaves, branches Painted wood Stained wood Clean unpainted wood Household garbage Construction debris Furniture Drywall Ask for approval to dispose of any of these: Shingles Sod Dirt Concrete Asphalt Cement Brick Block Paver stones Gravel Sand And please don’t put any of these in dumpster rentals. Rockwall may hit you with additional fees or fines if you do: Tires of any kind Appliances Batteries Adhesives Food Drywall with asbestos Paint cans Chemical containers Liquid containers of any kind Fuel, oil, or any car fluids Car grease Biomedical waste Radioactive waste Fuel tanks Propane tanks Hazardous waste Animal waste/carcasses If you have any doubt about what you want to put in your dumpster rental, please call or text 214-495-1510! 6. Should I just get the smallest dumpster rental so I pay less? No. You actually cost yourself money with that approach. You’re better off getting the right size the first time. Most consumers underestimate the cubic feet required by their dumpster rentals. With Blue Star, you can get dumpsters which hold 20 or 30 cubic yards of waste. When you underestimate, you end up having to pay more because that smaller dumpster gets taken away and emptied. Then you get a replacement dumpster. And you have to pay for those trips. The total cost is lower by just getting the right size in the first place. Generally, we say that if you manually pick up, carry, and toss stuff into your dumpster, you can go with a 20-yard one. If you use machinery, like a backhoe, to dump material into your dumpster rental, you probably have enough to fill a 30-yard dumpster. If you’re not sure, please just call or text 214-495-1510 and we’ll clear up the matter for you right away! 7. Do I have to sign anything? Yes. You do sign an agreement that clarifies fees and usage of our dumpster rentals so both you and Blue Star have something to refer to if any misunderstandings arise. 8. Do you provide commercial roll-off dumpster rentals for weeks or months at a time? Yes. You can absolutely have roll-off dumpsters arranged. Again, please just call or text 214-495-1510 for your free quote. Rockwall Consumers and Businesses: Get Your Affordable Dumpster Rentals Today! Reliable. Fast. Never a Hassle. And No Confusing or Hidden Fees! Residential Dumpster Rentals Near You Dallas Residential Dumpster Rentals You have a lot of stuff to throw out and you know you need a dumpster rental. But, you’ve heard all the problems with dumpster rental services: The staff are rude The dumpster doesn’t come on time You never even get your dumpster You get odd-sounding charges on your invoice You can’t talk to customer service The experience can be much like calling your cable or satellite TV company. You know no one cares, and you just hope that by some miracle, you get good service without having to pay any obnoxious hidden fees. Dumpster rentals don’t have to be that way. You don’t need any more stress or hassle than you already have. Getting the dumpster rental you need when you need it and at the price promised couldn’t be any easier or more convenient. Get your free quote today! Call, Text or Email. Get A Quote Why Should You Trust Blue Star? Our owner has been in the waste disposal industry in Dallas and Irving for more than a decade. Her previous company served some of the most prestigious businesses, non-profits, and professional sports teams in the area. Her previous business was eventually acquired by a nearly $1 billion company. That means she understands how to design and run a business that gets dumpster rentals to customers without any problems or delays. Blue Star is also not a broker. We are locally owned and operated. Many affordable dumpster rental companies are actually brokers, which means they operate out of the local area. And frequently, they don’t care to provide good service because their reputation doesn’t depend on it. While Blue Star gets dumpster rental service referrals from brokers, we are not a broker. And when you call you to talk to a live, local person with decision-making power so you don’t get transferred around 2-3 times before you get an answer to your question. What Should You Know about Blue Star’s Dumpster Rentals Before Renting? Our dumpster rentals do not exceed $500. That’s the maximum price you can expect to pay. And you won’t find any unusual fees on your invoice (like a “fuel surcharge”). The difference between Blue Star and other companies who charge the same lies in the quality of service. You will get your dumpster rental next-day. There’s no doubt about that. You won’t experience any additional hassles or delays. And you won’t find confusing fees on your invoice. One of the biggest mistakes customers make is renting too small of a dumpster. They want to save money, so they choose the smaller size. However, this ends up costing you more because when you fill it up, our driver has to take it away and bring it back again. If you go with the larger size first, you won’t incur those additional pickup or delivery costs. How do you know which size to choose? Look at how you dispose of the material. If you just walk back and forth from your dumpster rental, you’ll be fine with a smaller size. But if you have some sort of machinery assisting you with disposal, like a backhoe, then you’re likely to dispose of enough to require a larger size. There are strict requirements on what you can and cannot put in your dumpster. Please see the city/locations served pages on this website for specifics. Next-Day Delivery Means You Get Your Dumpster Rental When You Need It We promise next-day delivery. Sometimes, this can even be sooner because some customers cancel their dumpster rentals and you can get theirs. But, we can’t guarantee that. At the same time, you know you’ll have your dumpster rental when you need it. Dumpster rentals do have some useful guidelines. And you can be charged fees if you don’t follow those guidelines. But we like to be up-front so you’re not shocked or surprised if that happens. When you rent your dumpster, you get it for 10 days. If you keep yours longer than 10 days, additional fees apply. Fees can also apply if you overfill your dumpster, dispose of banned materials, if you call for a pickup but aren’t ready, if you block our truck’s access to your dumpster, or if you cancel your dumpster rental with less than 24 hours’ notice. These terms are meant to be fair and straightforward. You do sign an agreement that outlines all these terms so you have a written record to refer to. And now that you know the guidelines for affordable dumpster rentals, you know what to do and not do so you don’t have any additional fees. Get your free quote today! Call, Text or Email. Get A Quote Frequently Asked Questions about Blue Star’s Affordable Dumpster Rentals While dumpster rentals in Richardson are simple, you do need to know some things. Here are the top questions residents ask: 1. What can I put in my dumpster? Here’s a quick list of what you can and cannot put in dumpster rentals, and what you need approval to put in your dumpster rental. What you can put in: Yard waste of any kind (grass, leaves, branches) Painted or stained wood Clean unpainted wood Construction debris Household garbage Furniture Drywall Ask for approval about these: Shingles Sod and dirt Concrete Cement Asphalt Brick Block Paver stones Sand Gravel You may not put these in dumpster rentals, or you may be subject to fines and additional fees: Appliances Batteries Adhesives Food Drywall with asbestos Paint cans Chemical or liquid containers of any sort Fuel, oil, grease, or any car fluids Biomedical or radioactive waste Fuel tanks/propane tanks Hazardous waste Animal waste or carcassas Car tires Bike tires Unsure? Just call 214-495-1510 and we’re happy to clear up the matter so you don’t pay annoying fees or fines! 2. Do I need to do anything to prepare? Dumpster rentals only require a flat level place to sit on. You should also lay down 4×8-foot pieces of plywood if the dumpster will go in your driveway. This protects your driveway from cracking. While we don’t want to damage your driveway, it’s your responsibility to protect yours. Call or text us if you need further clarification. 3. Can I call and get a dumpster rental tomorrow? We can get you your dumpster rental next-day. However, don’t wait until the last minute. Cancellations do happen, so you might get lucky and get one. But that’s not a guarantee. We make every effort to get dumpster rentals to customers when needed. 4. Can dumpster rentals be canceled? Yes. Give us at least 24 hours’ notice to do so. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, a cancellation fee applies. You can change the dates you need your dumpster too. However, again please give 24 hours of notice. 5. Should I just get the smallest dumpster possible so I pay less? No. While a 30-yard dumpster rentals cost more than 20-yard ones, the biggest mistake customers make happens when they go with a smaller one to save a few bucks. Truthfully, you won’t save money because you’ll have to pay additional costs for transporting the dumpster and getting another one to fill. Most customers underestimate the amount of stuff they have to dispose. So you’re best off choosing the largest size you think you’ll need. You can also let us know what you’re disposing of, and we can give you a recommendation. 6. How much do dumpster rentals cost? Blue Star’s dumpster rentals are affordable and competitively priced. All our dumpster rentals are priced below $500. The difference you get with Blue Star lies in the quality of service – delivery in 24 hours without any invoicing games. And prompt answers from a person who cares and wants to solve your problem ASAP. However, once you identify the type of dumpster you need, you will get a single, clear price that doesn’t involve confusing language designed to squeeze more money out of you. You pay once. You pay for what you use. And that’s it! 7. Are there any additional fees I should know about? There can be. But if dumpster rentals are used within the set guidelines, you don’t pay anything extra. As a resident, If you use your dumpster rental for more than 10 days or overfill your dumpster, then additional fees will apply. And if you put stuff in your dumpster that you shouldn’t, you may have to pay fines. Additional fees also apply if you call for a pickup but aren’t ready, or if we can’t get to your dumpster because something’s blocking its path. 8. How much can 20 or 30-yard dumpster rentals hold? 20-yard dumpster rentals hold quite a bit. One can store the equivalent of nine pickup truck loads. They work great if you’re remodeling most of your home, need to hold about 400 square feet of decking, or if you have about 3000 square feet of shingles to dispose of. 30-yard dumpster rentals hold 33% more – about 12 pickup truck loads. They work great for new construction, demolition, or replacing all of your home’s siding. If you’re not sure what you need, give us a buzz at 214-495-1510 and we’re happy to help you identify the right sized dumpster. 9. Can dumpster rentals go in the street? Maybe. You may need a permit. Ask your local municipality to make sure. 10. Do I have to sign anything? Yes. We do have a simple agreement designed to protect both parties and clarify fees and usage so disputes ideally don’t happen, or so they can be easily resolved. That agreement reflects exactly what you see on this website. 11. Does Blue Star serve commercial customers with affordable roll off dumpster rentals? Yes. Almost all of the guidelines for residential dumpsters apply. However, you can keep your dumpster longer without paying additional fees (14 days). …And remember, we’re woman-owned too! Blue Star’s goal is to make affordable dumpster rentals as fast and easy as possible. And there are some things to know before you rent yours. Here’s a quick guide: 1. How soon can I get my dumpster rental? The soonest we can promise is the next day. You do have a chance of getting your dumpster rental faster than that. However, this requires another customer to cancel theirs. We can’t promise other customers will do that. But, we can promise you will get yours next-day. It’s best not to wait until the last minute. Instead, reserve yours the second you know you’ll need one. 2. What do I need to do to prepare my property for a dumpster rental? Our delivery truck and a 20-30 yard dumpster need to be able to fit on your property. So, they need unblocked access to where you’d like yours to be. And the final resting spot for your affordable dumpster rental must be flat and level (usually on your driveway). You may need to get permission from your HOA regarding this. And if you want your dumpster rental to go on your driveway, make sure you have 4×8-foot sheets of plywood to place underneath your dumpster. That prevents cracking or any other damage to your driveway 3. Can I put my dumpster rental on the road? How can I avoid overfilling my dumpster rental? 4. How can I avoid overfilling my dumpster rental? It’s tempting to rent a smaller dumpster because it costs less. But, customers who do this usually find themselves paying more because they must have their dumpster rental taken away and then delivered again. Estimating the correct size of dumpster rental you need isn’t as hard as it first seems. We advise you to look at how you will dispose of material. If you simply carry your stuff on foot, you’ll be fine with a 20-yard dumpster. If you have machinery helping you dispose of material, then you should go with a 30-yard dumpster rental. If you’re not sure what makes most sense for you, just call or text 214.495.1510 and we’re happy to help you figure it out! 5. Is there anything I can’t put in my dumpster? Yes. You know how disposal laws have changed over the past couple decades. We’re subject to those too. We don’t get a special pass or licensing or anything like that. So, here’s what you can put in your dumpster: Yard waste Painted or stained wood Construction debris Garbage from around your home Furniture Drywall without asbestos You may be able to put the below in your affordable dumpster rental. However, please ask us for approval first: Roofing shingles Sod Dirt Concrete Asphalt Cement Brick Block Pavers Sand Gravel And here’s what you absolutely cannot put in your dumpster rental. Be aware that placing the below in your dumpster rental results in extra fees and fines: Tires Appliances Batteries Animal carcasses Animal waste Hazardous waste Propane tanks Fuel tanks Biomedical waste Radioactive waste Car grease Oil Car fluids of any kind Fuels of any kind Liquid containers Chemical containers Paint cans Drywall (with asbestos) Food Adhesives If you have any doubt about what you want to put in your dumpster rental, please call or text 214.495.1510. We don’t want you to get any additional fees, and we can help you figure out how to dispose of whatever it is that concerns you. 6. Is Blue Star a Broker? No. We do get business referrals from dumpster rental brokers. However, we directly provide the service and have a building locally here in the Metroplex. That means you talk to a local Texan who cares about other Texans just like you. And it means you don’t get transferred in circles until you’re dropped. You always get a prompt, clear resolution to your concern. 7. What do dumpster rentals cost? Do additional fees apply? You’ll never pay more than $500 for your dumpster rental with Blue Star. Additional fees can apply. But if you follow the simple guidelines below, you won’t have to worry about any additional fees: Keep your dumpster rental 10 days or less (additional fees apply for keeping your dumpster longer than 10 days) Don’t overfill your dumpster Never put any specifically prohibited materials in your dumpster Never call for a pickup and then not be ready for it Keep the path to your dumpster rental clear so our truck can easily access it Don’t cancel your dumpster rental with less than 24 hours of notice If you stay within those guidelines, you have nothing to worry about. And if you have any questions or confusion, just call or text 214.495.1510 and we’ll clear the matter up for you! 8. I’m a business. Does Blue Star have roll off dumpsters? Yes. You can get a roll dumpster for weeks and months if you need one (or several) to do your work. And roll off dumpster customers like you get the same reliable service residential customers get. No Hidden Fees! Time to toss a lot of stuff out, or have a home remodeling project? You could haul it all to your local recycling center. But that takes a lot of time. You could sell your stuff online. But that takes a lot of time, only makes you a few dollars per hour, and it might be months or more than a year before you get rid of your stuff. You could host a garage sale, but that takes a lot of time and you might not get rid of all your stuff. Or, you could look at dumpster rentals in the DFW Metroplex because then you can throw all your stuff away without spending a ton of time doing it. But that raises another problem: which dumpster rental company do you choose? Maybe you’ve heard the stories of companies showing up late or not at all. Or maybe you know someone who didn’t get charged as the dumpster rental company promised. Or you might have a friend or neighbor who had to fight tooth and nail with many phone calls just to get their dumpster and get charged correctly. It happens in every business…including dumpster rentals. And that’s where Blue Star Dumpsters comes to the rescue. We’re based right here in the DFW Metroplex and serve the entire area. Call, Text or Email. Get A Quote FAQs: What Should I Know about Blue Star’s Dumpster Rentals Before Renting? It’s easy to understand how dumpster rentals work at Blue Star. We aim to make your service as fast and simple as possible. Here’s some things to understand so you have a smooth experience: 1. How much do dumpster rentals cost? They’re affordable. Dumpster rentals run no more than $500 at Blue Star. That’s competitive with other companies in the DFW Metroplex. However, with Blue Star, you get a locally owned and operated company who prides itself in giving you service with absolutely zero hassles. You get clear answers to your questions. You get your dumpster the next day. And you pay exactly as quoted, and no more. That’s the difference between us and other companies in the DFW Metroplex. It’s best not to wait until the last minute. Instead, reserve yours the second you know you’ll need one. 2. What size does my dumpster rental need to be? Blue Star offers 20 and 30-cubic-yard dumpsters. We advise you to think about how you’ll be disposing of stuff to judge which type of dumpster you should rent. If you’ll pick up stuff and walk it to your dumpster, you’ll be fine with a 20-yard dumpster. If you’ll use machinery to load your dumpster rental, you should go with a 30-yard dumpster. In general, you want to lean in the direction of going with a larger dumpster. That’s because it costs more to fill a smaller dumpster, have it taken away and delivered again, and then refill it and have it hauled away a second time. It’s cheaper to get a larger dumpster delivered once and hauled away. If you’re not sure what to do, just call or text 214-495-1510 and we’ll be happy to help you figure out what works best for your needs. 3. How soon can I get my dumpster rental? We can promise you next-day delivery. However, you shouldn’t wait until the last minute to reserve yours. Always reserve it as soon as you know when you’ll need it. In rare cases, you may get yours sooner than next-day. This could happen when another customer cancels their dumpster rental. We can’t promise that will happen though. 4. What can and can’t I put in my dumpster rental? While we aim to make renting dumpsters as simple as possible, there are some things you can and can’t put in dumpster rentals. Here’s what you can put in yours: Yard waste Painted wood Stained wood Construction debris Household garbage Furniture Drywall (without asbestos) You might be able to put the below items in your dumpster. However, ask us for permission first: Shingles Sod Dirt Gravel Sand Pavers Block Brick Asphalt Cement Concrete Dirt And you definitely cannot put the below items in your dumpster. Doing so may result in fees and fines: Animal carcasses Animal waste Hazardous waste Propane tanks Fuel tanks Radioactive waste Biomedical waste Car grease Oil Fuel Car fluids Liquid containers Chemical containers Paint cans Drywall with asbestos Food Adhesives Batteries Appliances Any type of tires Unsure about something you have that doesn’t show up on this list? Call or text 214-495-1510 and we’ll let you know how to get rid of it. 5. Do additional fees ever apply? Sometimes. It’s our goal to make sure you don’t pay any additional fees. However, additional fees can apply if you: Keep your dumpster rental for more than 10 days Overfill your dumpster Put stuff in your dumpster that you shouldn’t Call to have your dumpster rental picked up but aren’t ready Block the path to your dumpster so our driver can’t access it Cancel your dumpster rental with less than 24 hours of notice Stay within these simple guidelines and you won’t have to pay any additional fees. 6. Can affordable dumpster rentals go on the road? Perhaps. You’ll have to call your local municipality to find out for sure. 7. How do I prepare my property for a dumpster rental? There’s not much you have to do. You need a clear path so our truck can easily deliver a 20-30 cubic yard dumpster to the desired area on your property. In most cases, you cannot place your dumpster rental on your lawn. This usually has to be on your driveway. To protect your driveway, you should have cheap 4×8-foot sheets of plywood to place your dumpster rental on. This prevents cracks caused by the weight of the dumpster when full. If you have unique situations on your property and need help making sure everything will go smoothly, just call or text 214-495-1510 and we’re happy to help. 8. Is Blue Star a broker? Can any additional fees apply for your dumpster rentals? Yes. However, as long as you use your dumpster within the simple guidelines, you don’t have to worry about paying any additional fees. Additional fees may be charged for dumpster rentals if: You overfill your dumpster rental (just ask us for help on sizing) You use your dumpster for more than 10 days You put material in your dumpster that you shouldn’t (see the next question for specifics) You call or text for a pickup but aren’t ready when we arrive Our truck can’t get to your dumpster because of stuff you own blocking the way You want to place your dumpster on the street. We don’t charge fees for this. But your municipality may require a permit. You cancel your affordable dumpster rental with less than 24 hours’ notice. 3. What can and can’t I put in my dumpster? Dumpster rentals are not intended to house every last bit or type of garbage you have. Here’s what you can and cannot put in your dumpster. And if you have something not on this list, please just call or text and ask. What dumpster rentals can accept: Yard waste Painted wood Stained wood Unpainted, clean wood Construction debris Drywall Furniture Ask for approval if you need to dispose of the following: Roofing shingles Sod (grass with its roots and dirt) Concrete Cement Asphalt Brick Sand Gravel Pavers And dumpster rentals simply can’t accept any of the following. If you dispose of any of these materials, you may have to pay additional fees or fines: Appliances Batteries Adhesives Food waste Drywall that contains asbestos Cans of paint Chemicals of any kind Liquid containers Any car fluids Gas, oil, or grease Biomedical waste Radioactive waste Propane tanks Hazardous waste Pet waste Animal carcasses Tires of any kind 4. What do I need to do to prepare for my affordable dumpster rental? Not much. But, you do need to do a couple things: Make sure you have flat, level space to place your dumpster somewhere on your property (call or text us if you’re not sure and we can help you strategize this) Ensure you protect your driveway from damage. You can do this by placing 4-foot by 8-foot pieces of plywood for your dumpster to rest on. It’s heavy and will only get heavier when your dumpster gets full with 2-3 tons of material. While we don’t want our dumpster to cause damage to your driveway, it’s ultimately your responsibility to protect yours. 5. Can dumpster rentals simply go in the street? Maybe. Call your municipality and ask if they require permits or if law doesn’t allow dumpster rentals in the street. 6. How do I know what size dumpster rental I need? For residential customers, we advise you to calculate based on how you’re disposing of stuff. You should also always overestimate size versus what you think you’ll need. For example, if you’re just carrying stuff out from around your property or inside your house, you only need a 20-yard dumpster. If you have a backhoe or other machinery moving material to your dumpster, you’ll need a 30-yard dumpster. Generally, customers tend to underestimate what size they need. And part of this can be to save money. But, when you underestimate, you may end up needing another trip to empty your dumpster and bring it back, which ends up costing you more money than just getting the right size dumpster in the first place. And of course, you can always call or text 214-495-1510, explain the details of your project, and we’ll help you make the right choice. 7. How much do dumpster rentals cost for Carrollton residents? They’re affordable. Our dumpster rentals are priced below $500 for both residential and commercial customers. 8. Can I get a dumpster rental in a few hours? We can promise you will get your dumpster next-day. But we can’t promise same-day or just a few hours. Cancellations happen, and there’s a small chance you could get the dumpster another customer no longer needs. But, that’s only a slight chance. You should call at least one day previous to be absolutely sure you can get your dumpster rental when you need it. 9. Do I have to sign something? Yes. But it’s just a simple document that sets clear standards and outlines fees so we have a way to resolve misunderstandings or disagreements. The agreement is designed to protect both you and us so everyone gets a fair deal. 10. Do you serve business customers with roll-off dumpsters? Yes! You can absolutely get roll off dumpsters, or multiple dumpsters, on an ongoing basis. Everything works the same as it does for residential customers. Got it? Great! Yes! Yes! Dumpster Rentals in Dallas Don’t Get Any Easier or More Reliable Save yourself some stress and hassle and choose Blue Star. --- ## Blog ### Why Choose a Dumpster Rental? | Blue Star Dumpsters URL: https://bluestardumpsters.com/blog/why-choose-a-dumpster-rental-versus-other-disposal-methods/ Why to Choose a Dumpster Rental Versus Other Disposal Methods Leave a Comment / Uncategorized / By Blue Star Dumpster When was the last time you did a complete inventory and purge of everything you don’t need? It’s so easy to accumulate piles of stuff, forget about it, and then rediscover it again years later. And it seems like the more space you have, the more stuff you find to fill that space. Who knows? You could be sitting on a mini goldmine of stuff that you could make some good money on. When it comes to getting rid of your stuff, there are basically four different ways to do it: ● Haul it to your local recycling center yourself ● Resell it online somewhere or host a garage sale ● Give it away to family or friends or a thrift store ● Rent a dumpster and toss it all out Or, you might do some combination of all of the above. Take a look at each of these methods in greater detail, and their pros and cons: 1. Hauling to Your Local Recycling Center The biggest advantage of this method is the low cost. And it also makes sense if you don’t have a ton of stuff you want to get rid of. Toss your junk and unwanted stuff in your pickup truck or SUV. Drive it to your local recycling center. Perhaps pay some fees for removing certain types of stuff. And then repeat that until your stuff’s gone. The big con of this method is that it sucks time. You have to find your stuff, put it in a bag, move it to your car, drive a long way to your local recycling center, and then do that several times until everything’s gone. 2. Resell Your Stuff Online or Host a Garage Sale You could probably resell most of your stuff for at least some money online or at a garage sale. However, it’s extremely time-consuming to use either of these methods. And when all is said and done, you usually only make just a few dollars per hour. If you have items you know you can make good money on because you understand their market, it makes sense to resell those online at eBay. Reselling online also makes sense if you have quite a bit of experience at it. But with most of your things, you don’t know what the market will bear. So, you have to research pricing. You have to create product listings. You have to take pictures. You have to write short blurbs about the products. Then you have to deal with customer returns. It easily takes months, and it could take more than a year to get rid of most of your stuff. When you put it all together, reselling online’s quite a project. Craigslist can be a veritable nightmare. People on Craigslist look to pay as little as they can. They’ll haggle about your prices…even if they’re already low. Craigslist is not a place to make money. But it can be useful for giving away stuff for free. However, at the same time, it can be a haven for people in really tough spots in life…and these people can be challenging to deal with. Some of them you may not even want coming to your home! Garage sales are also a lot of work. You have to get your stuff together, set it up on tables, tag it with price tags, sit outside and manage the sales, and then deal with price hagglers. And you may have to host a few garage sales to get rid of all of your stuff. It also is quite time-intensive. And like reselling online, you’ll only end up making just a few dollars per hour (in most cases). 3. Give Your Stuff to Family or Friends or Donate to a Thrift Store This junk removal method can be a little more time-efficient. Family and friends may come and pick through your stuff and take what they want. You can show images of your stuff on Facebook where they can easily see what you have to get rid of. But, you probably won’t get rid of all your stuff, unless you have an absurd number of family members and friends. Donating to a thrift store, like Goodwill, sucks a lot of time. It’s just like hauling your stuff to your local recycling center…except that Goodwill gives you a receipt so you can claim tax deductions for stuff you donate. Goodwill may not take all of your stuff, however. They’ll likely take most of it. But there’s some things they just won’t take. And, you’re not going to make a good hourly rate when donating your stuff to Goodwill. You will make some money because of that tax deduction you get for donating stuff. But it won’t be a lot of money. The best reward is that you feel good about having done a service for your local community. 4. Rent a Dumpster and Toss Your Stuff Out in Bulk It does cost some money to rent your own dumpster. However, it is the most time-efficient of all these methods of junk removal. And it’s the best use of your time. You simply rent a dumpster and have it delivered to your home. You can get one in 24 hours, and you get to keep it for 10 days without additional fees. Then you make trips in and out of your home, tossing and removing all of your stuff. When you’re done, you call the dumpster rental company. They take the dumpster away and have your stuff disposed of. There are some things you can’t toss in your dumpster rental. But a dumpster rental will take most of your stuff. And unlike garage sales or reselling stuff online, dumpster rentals have a quick and firm deadline. Once you have your dumpster, you won’t feel the desire to put off the project and let it drag out for weeks and months. You get your dumpster. You get your stuff out. And you enjoy a cleaner, more spacious home! So, now you understand the ins and outs of each removal method. You may choose one just for time’s sake. And then again, you may choose a combination of all the above. For now, you know the details so you can make the right decision for your situation. No, it doesn’t work like an insurance policy where the point is to trap you and take your money. The point is to create a fair working relationship that protects both parties. In business, everyone should win, which includes the customer and the company, right? Here’s some mistakes to watch out for so you have maximum convenience and no trouble getting rid of your stuff: 1. Poor Dumpster Placement Not placing your dumpster in the right spot may be the top problem because it can lead to so many other problems. For example, putting your dumpster rental on a city street when the city doesn’t allow dumpsters on streets at all can result in hefty fines. Placing your dumpster in your driveway with no plywood beneath can result in additional cracks. Having your dumpster in your driveway without remembering how it affects your ability to park your car can result in making you late. Or, maybe you pay fines because you park somewhere else you can’t. Putting your bin at the end of your driveway can block your view of pedestrians and other drivers, increasing the risk of a car accident. And have you left enough room between your dumpster and your home so that it doesn’t block any doors? At the same time, have you placed your dumpster close enough to your home such that it doesn’t require too far to walk to dispose of your junk? These are all things to think through before choosing the final location for your dumpster. And if placing your dumpster forces you to expose yourself to one of these risks, consider how you will compensate for that. 2. Tossing Materials into Your Dumpster That Can’t Be in There As much as we’d like to keep it simple and tell you that you can put whatever you want in your dumpster, you just can’t do that. Laws don’t work that way. For example, you can’t put paint in your dumpster. If you do, you’ll find yourself with some fines to pay. While it usually makes sense what you can’t put in your dumpster, some things might surprise you. For example, animal waste, animal carcasses, oil, batteries, adhesives, food, and chemical containers can’t go in Blue Star’s dumpsters. Again, if you place any of those in your dumpster, you can end up paying fines. 3. Misjudging How Long You’ll Need Your Dumpster The typical homeowner keeps their dumpster for about three-and-a-half days. Blue Star lets you keep your dumpster without paying any additional fees for 10 days. For most situations, you can easily keep one of our dumpsters without having to worry about having to pay for using it longer than intended. But, life happens. You know you have your dumpster for 10 days, so it’s easy to say,”Oh. Well, I have so long to keep this dumpster. There’s no rush. I’ll just throw more stuff in tomorrow when I’m not so tired.” Then, tomorrow becomes the next day. And then it becomes the day after. Then you have to stay late for work unexpectedly. Or, your child has a school activity you forgot about. Suddenly, you find yourself with not enough time to fill up your dumpster. And then, you have to pay a little more. Rather than waiting to actually get your dumpster, start organizing your stuff for disposal immediately. Get it all into one area of your property so you don’t have to go around and consolidate it when you actually have your dumpster. And when you get your dumpster, get to the job right away (at least part of it). Make sure you avoid unnecessary late fees and that your dumpster only costs what you thought! 4. Renting from a Broker In the dumpster rental industry, you have two kinds of companies: Ones owned and operated out of the area which really just serve as call centers who then hand your request off to someone else (brokers) Locally owned and operated dumpster rental companies It goes without saying that you get better service from local companies. Remember, they depend on their reputation to keep business coming in. When they give you great service, you reward them by leaving a positive Google review or telling your friends and neighbors about the company. Brokers operate on volume. If they botch a few jobs, including yours, it’s not a big deal. They always have other customers coming in. Or, they can just focus on a new geographic region if need be. It’s not that you never get good service from brokers. But you have a much higher risk of poor service with them. 5. Choosing the Cheapest Possible Dumpster From a practical standpoint, cheaper dumpsters frequently end up costing you more. For example, let’s say you go with a smaller dumpster size. When you fill it up, you find that you don’t have enough room for all your junk. So, the company has to haul your dumpster away and bring it back. That costs you more than getting the right-size dumpster and having it delivered and hauled away just once. You also expose yourself to the risk of poor service. Companies that charge low prices have to cut corners behind the scenes to make the prices work. For example, they pay their employees low wages. That attracts just about anybody desperate for work. Those workers don’t value service or relationships. And then you find yourself getting your dumpster late, or even not at all! Or, if you have questions, they just recite answers. While the answers may be correct, you can tell they’re just slamming you through their process as fast as possible to keep their profit healthy. So, if something goes wrong in the relationship, which you have a higher chance of, you may just be out of luck and not get a fair resolution to your concern. Renting Your Dumpster Doesn’t Have to be a Science When disposing of your stuff, you just want to get your dumpster, fill it, and get it hauled away. And with the right dumpster rental company, that’s exactly what happens. Whether you’re clearing fallen leaves, removing summer furniture, or tackling those long-delayed garage cleanouts, renting a dumpster can make your fall and winter preparation much easier. Hopefully, you’ve done your research and found a reliable dumpster rental company that gives you confidence from your first interaction. But before your dumpster arrives, have you properly prepared your property for delivery? If not, you might encounter unexpected charges. Let’s explore the dos and don’ts of fall and winter dumpster rental. Where You Absolutely Cannot Place Your Dumpster Winter weather can create additional challenges for dumpster placement. While dumpsters are sturdy metal containers, certain locations become especially problematic during colder months. Avoid placing dumpsters on slopes that could become icy or slippery. Wet fallen leaves can create unstable ground conditions. Areas where snow tends to accumulate should also be avoided. During winter thaws, previously solid ground can become muddy and unstable, potentially causing issues with dumpster placement and pickup. Remember that many municipalities have specific winter parking and street placement regulations. You may need special permits for street placement. Best Places to Put Your Dumpster Don’t let winter weather concerns discourage you. There are still plenty of suitable locations for dumpster placement during the colder months. Look for level, paved surfaces that remain accessible year-round. Your driveway is often ideal, as long as it’s cleared of ice. Some properties have dedicated concrete pads or areas of hard-packed gravel that work well. If you’re unsure about the best location, especially considering seasonal conditions, contact your rental company for expert advice. Solutions exist for challenging situations. For instance, if ground freezing is a concern, proper ground preparation with plywood or other materials can help. A reputable company will help you plan for seasonal challenges rather than using them as an opportunity for additional charges. How to Prepare Your Property for Your Rental Dumpster’s Delivery Winter preparation requires a few extra steps beyond standard delivery preparation. First, ensure your chosen location is completely cleared – not just of typical obstacles, but also of ice, and fallen leaves. Consider access routes the delivery truck will need to take, keeping in mind that winter conditions might require more clearance than usual. During fall and winter, proper lighting becomes increasingly important as daylight hours decrease. Make sure the delivery area and path are well-lit if delivery will occur during darker hours. Extra space for maneuvering becomes even more critical during winter months. Frozen ground, snow banks, and icy conditions might require drivers to take different approaches than they would in warmer months. Having weather-resistant plywood sheets available is especially important during these seasons. They not only protect your property but also provide stable footing in potentially slippery conditions. How to Know if Your Seasonal Cleanup Could Pose Weight Issues Fall and winter cleanups often involve different materials than summer projects. Wet leaves, soggy yard waste, and snow-soaked items can be deceptively heavy. While manual loading typically won’t create weight issues, using equipment to clear snow or move frozen materials could lead to overweight conditions. Pay special attention when disposing of: Snow and ice-laden materials Wet fallen leaves and yard debris Frozen or water-saturated items Winter storm damage debris If You’re Not Sure, Call Us (214) 495-1510 Winter dumpster rental has its own unique considerations. Your rental company should be able to address seasonal concerns clearly and completely. They should understand local winter regulations and be prepared to advise on weather-related challenges. If their answers about winter service seem vague or if they dismiss your seasonal concerns, consider it a red flag. Quality companies will have clear protocols for winter service and be upfront about any weather-related limitations or requirements. Renting a dumpster for fall and winter cleanup doesn’t have to be complicated. With proper preparation and understanding of seasonal considerations, you can ensure a smooth rental experience even during the coldest months. Now you’re prepared for a successful fall or winter dumpster rental. You understand the seasonal challenges and know what questions to ask. Make your seasonal cleanup easier by choosing a rental company that understands and prepares for winter conditions. Home | Blue Star URL: https://bluestardumpsters.com/blog/how-many-dumpsters-do-you-need-to-empty-a-1500-square-foot-home/ How Many Dumpsters Do You Need to Empty a 1500 Square Foot Home? Leave a Comment / Dumpster / By Blue Star Dumpster So you, like so many Americans, are considering cleaning out your home while you’re stuck spending almost every minute of your life in it. Not a bad idea at all. You’ll feel absolutely great when you have much less stuff in your home that you no longer need. It may be hard to let go of some things. But trust us, when you have that much more space in your home, less stuff that you don’t look at or use anyway, and a clean and organized look from top to bottom, you’ll feel like you haven’t in a long, long time. To get all that stuff out of your home, you’ll need a method for disposal. And if you have more stuff in your home than you can fit in your regular garbage container, then it’s time to innovate. That’s where rental dumpsters begin to make a lot of sense. They’re useful because you can get rid of everything basically at once (versus many trips to a landfill or Goodwill or taking months to sell stuff online). And honestly, you’ll most likely only need a single dumpster to get rid of everything. Let’s take a closer look at some of the intricacies of this process. How Do You Motivate Yourself to Clean Your Home When You Don’t Feel Like It? The real problem won’t be the number of dumpsters you need to clean out your home. Instead, it’s really about what’s going on in your mind. For example, are you one of the many “shame-cleaners?” A “shame-cleaner” is someone who puts off cleaning until company wants to come over. Then, to avoid the shame and embarrassment of what people will say if they see your home, you clean like a maniac. Much of the cleaning you do is literally last-second right before your guests arrive. But it creates so much stress and anxiety! Taking care of your home should be a fairly fun and relaxing process. Much of the time, cleaning your home isn’t a matter of practical logistics. It’s more often the result of how you feel. When you feel great, your home looks great. If you feel stressed, anxious, and chaotic, your house ends up looking like a twister tore through. The main thing, according to columnist Briallen Hopper , admittedly a naturally messy person and last-minute shame cleaner, is that your home should nurture you and the people you love. If you clean out of shame, it’s not going to motivate you over the long-term. Your house will look great for a while. But it’ll slowly drift right back into the state it was before you cleaned it out. Now, this doesn’t mean you need to flip to the other extreme and become a Martha Stewart perfectionist neat freak either. So don’t worry about that! Rather, you have to figure out what level of cleanliness really matters to you emotionally. You should feel happy, comfortable, and proud of the state of your home. And if that means things get a little dusty, well then that’s just fine. You only have so much time and energy. So, you have to prioritize what matters most to you and invest yourself there. This might even mean seeing a therapist. This is not a joke, by the way! The issue is not the state of your home. The issue lies in what’s preventing you from taking the actions to make a home you love. And sometimes, those issues have their roots in deep pain and trauma you’ve never dealt with. Briallen Hopper, the author mentioned just a few paragraphs ago, made therapy a part of restoring her home to a state that made her happy. The point is you’re not alone if you have personal wounds that make it difficult to clean out your home. And it’s perfectly okay to seek out professional help if you feel you need it. Now Let’s Talk Logistics: How Many Dumpsters Will It Take to Clean A 1500 Square Foot Home Out? Unless you have stuff piled up from the floor to ceiling and just narrow aisles to walk through, it’ll only take you one 20-yard dumpster to remove all the stuff in your home. That costs you no more than $500. And you’ll get all the unnecessary junk out of your home in one fell cleaning swoop that takes a few days or a week to get rid of. To get yourself started, pick a small area in your home that bothers you a lot. Maybe even take a picture or video of it before you clean. You don’t even need to work on an entire room. It can be just one small area of the room. Then, have at it! Every item in that area needs to be addressed. The item must be thrown away, donated, cleaned, and made a decoration, or neatly put away. And no matter how tempted you feel to “figure it out later,” let go of that thought and address the issue right now. Now, you can’t get all this done quickly. It’s going to take some time and dedication. And that’s okay because you get to keep your dumpster rental for 10 days without paying additional fees. Once you have that small area complete, sit back for 15-20 minutes and let your mind process it. Pay attention closely to your feelings. How do you feel? A little lighter and happier? Prouder and more confident in yourself and your home? Maybe you feel a little loss and regret. Did you really need to get rid of that stuff? You were saving it for another time. Your mind may do one, the other, or both. And if you start to feel negative and a sense of loss and regret, that’s normal too. Simply let those feelings go and keep on cleaning. Your mind will always follow your body. Maybe not this minute. But it will eventually. And you will start to turn that corner and get to a place of joy and serenity. Now, simply keep repeating the above process. Continue working on small areas of various rooms in your home. Watch the videos you take of the before-and-after. And celebrate each success! More than likely, you’ll need just a single dumpster to take care of everything in your home. It’s really a mental (and not physical) war you’re waging. So if you run into obstacles, ask yourself: why? Confront the issues preventing progress. And remember that after all the work, you’ll feel so great you’ll wonder why you didn’t clean out your home sooner! What do you need to know before you actually get one? Renting a dumpster from any company should be easy and straightforward. But it doesn’t always work that way. You do need to know some basic things before actually renting a dumpster Here’s a quick overview of what to understand: 1. How Do You Choose a Quality Dumpster Rental Company? Just like any consumer or business service, you have great dumpster rental companies that couldn’t be easier to work with. And then you have not-so-great ones that fill your contract with hidden fees, come late or not at all, or are just plain rude in their interaction with you. How do you research upfront so you get the kind you love? First, find a company that operates locally. Their reputation depends on giving you excellent service. They’re likely to understand that and give you great service as a result. Large companies and brokers focus on efficiency. They have so many customers that if they screw up they just move on to the next customer. Find 2-3 prospects on Google. Some websites also offer entire directories of dumpster rental companies. Research your prospect’s Google reviews and Facebook reviews. Talk to each company. If you feel like they’re genuinely concerned with helping you out and answering your questions, that’s a great sign. If they offer poor service at any point in your interaction with the company prior to hiring them, cross them off the list. Remember, the company wants to earn your business and money at this point. And if they’re anything less than kind and helpful, that continues and usually turns into bigger problems later on. 2. Where Will You Place Your Dumpster? This can actually be quite tricky. First, you should contact your local municipality and ask if they have any regulations. They may require you to have a permit, and they might ban the placement of dumpsters on city streets altogether. If you live in a HOA, you should also contact the association and ask about their requirements. In many cases, you’ll end up putting your dumpster on your driveway. That’s because a flat and hard surface bears the weight of the dumpster best. And when you do, you need to protect your driveway. The weight of your dumpster, when full, can be enough to cause cracks. To avoid this problem, you simply need to go to your local hardware store or lumber yard and get cheap 4×8-foot sheets of plywood. Laying them down and placing your dumpster on top will be enough to protect your driveway from damage. The sheets of plywood will be damaged and unusable. But, you could cut them up and have a backyard fire with your family! What if you don’t have a flat or hard surface available? A parking lot, street, or hard-packed dirt works well too. However, these again may be subject to local regulation or HOA requirements. You can also put your dumpster on loose sand if no other options are available. And again, 4×8-foot sheets of plywood will give your dumpster the stability it needs. If you’re not sure what to do, this is a great question to ask your dumpster rental service as you research companies. You can test their service and see if they’re genuinely interested in helping you, or if they’re just reciting their way through, treating you like a number. 3. What Size Dumpster Will You Really Need? What size of dumpster do you really need to toss all your stuff away? Honestly, it’s a pretty easy decision. We always advise to look at the way you’re going to throw stuff out. If you’ll walk your stuff to the dumpster, you’ll be fine with a 20 cubic yard dumpster. If you’ll use heavy machinery to assist you in removing trash or debris, you’ll need a 30 cubic yard dumpster. What if you’re not sure? This is another opportunity to call your dumpster rental company and test their customer service. See how nice and patient they are when you ask a simple question. In general, you should go with the largest (not the smallest) dumpster you think you’ll need. That’s not because larger dumpsters cost more and we’re trying to add to our own profit margin. If you underestimate and get a dumpster that’s too small, it’ll need to get hauled away and brought back again. If you have one that’s too large, it only gets hauled away once. And, it costs you less to have a larger dumpster hauled away once. 4. What Exactly Can You Put in Your Dumpster? You can’t put anything and everything in your dumpster rental. That would be nice. But because of recycling and regulation, it’s not possible with any dumpster rental company. Generally, dumpster rentals can accept any typical household garbage, yard waste, or construction debris. You might also have stuff that no dumpster rental company can take, which may require special disposal. For example, batteries, paint, fuels, or chemicals. Ask how you can get rid of these. You might also have large furniture that’s impossible for you to move on your own. In that case, you’d have to ask your dumpster rental company if they haul such stuff away, or if they know a junk removal service who can do that for you. You don’t want to try and sneak anything in your dumpster that shouldn’t be there, even if it is a small amount. If you get found out, that results in fines and possibly high fines. 5. What’s the Best Way to Get Rid of Your Stuff? You may feel the temptation to hold onto your stuff and sell it on Craigslist or Ebay. That’s actually not a bad idea for items you own that you know have a decent market value. For example, you have an old set of a popular brand of dishes. You might be able to get some money for those. You probably won’t want to do this for every last item you own, however. That’s because selling stuff online takes more work than you might realize. You have to create a product listing, upload images, and change prices. Plus, your items won’t necessarily sell right away. It could take many months or even longer than a year. So, if you want to get rid of your stuff, you have to estimate how much time it will take, and then consider whether it’s worth your time to resell it or just toss it away. It frequently makes sense for items that carry a decent value. But you’re probably wasting your time if you try to sell everything you want to get rid of online. Now You’re Prepared When you talk to dumpster rental companies, their process and terms should always be easy and straightforward to understand. And armed with this information, you now have a rough idea of what to expect so you don’t make any costly mistakes! Hopefully, you’ve been able to do thorough research and find a dumpster rental company that makes you feel extremely comfortable from the start. And now, the big day will come soon. Have you prepared your property so that your dumpster rental company can simply drop your dumpster off and leave? If you haven’t, you might get stuck with extra fees. So, take a minute to learn what to do and not do when you rent a dumpster. Where You Absolutely Cannot Place Your Dumpster Dumpsters are big hulking masses of metal and seem practically invincible. So, what could possibly go wrong? Well, if you place your dumpster on a steep hill, it could shift or move. That could make it more difficult to pick up. And that could mean extra fees to pay. Soft and sandy surfaces also pose a problem. The truck delivering your dumpster could get stuck. If a driver sees mushy soil, they won’t deliver your dumpster to that location on your property (unless you throw some plywood sheets down). And finally, a seemingly completely innocuous side of a city street could be a problem. The real problem isn’t the street, however. The problem could be your city’s laws. They may require a permit to place your dumpster on the street. So, technically you can put it there. You’ll just need to cover the cost of a permit. Best Places to Put Your Dumpster Don’t worry after reading the above. There’s plenty of places on nearly every property where you can place a dumpster. The ideal location is flat, hard, and not too steep. Usually, that’s your driveway or the city street. That could also be a parking lot or even on your lawn, if it has hard-packed dirt. What if you don’t have a location like that? No worries. Just call your dumpster rental company and ask them for help pinpoint the perfect spot on or around your property. A potential solution could be placing your dumpster on softer sand, if necessary. You would just need to lay down a few pieces of plywood to give your dumpster a solid, sturdy foundation to rest on. Any dumpster rental company worth their salt will help you find the ideal placement up-front. If they don’t make it abundantly clear, then perhaps they’re looking to maximize the fees they collect from you. CALL US NOW How to Prepare Your Property for Your Rental Dumpster’s Delivery You don’t have to do too much. Really, it’s only a few simple and common sense things. Number one is to make sure the area where you want your dumpster rental delivered is completely free of obstructions. That means moving your car, kid’s toys, or trash cans. In rare cases, you may even have to disassemble a section of your fence to allow. Basically, the truck driver needs to be able to get to your property, drop off your dumpster, and go on their way. If you have anything that delays the delivery process, that can lead to additional fees. A typical truck delivering a dumpster needs quite a bit of space to do the delivery. So, make sure you err on the side of providing more room than you think will be needed, rather than just enough. Also, remember the rule that the more maneuvering a driver must do, the more likely it is that damage will happen. So, whatever you can do to make your property as easy to access as possible will be helpful. Finally, you should also have 4×8’ sheets of plywood available to lay down to protect your property (especially your driveway) from the dumpster’s weight. They’re cheap. They’re easy to get. And they cost a lot less than damage happening to your driveway that you would have to repair. The plywood itself will more than likely be damaged by your dumpster. So, you probably won’t be able to use it again in the future. Maybe cut it up and burn it in your firepit instead. More than likely, your dumpster will not cause any damage to your property. But, if you have a heavy load (caused by concrete or masonry blocks, for example), that poses a risk. In any case, you’re smart to always lay down plywood. How to Know if Your Dumpster Could Get Heavy Enough to Cause Damage Honestly, it’s pretty difficult to fill your dumpster so full that it gets too heavy and causes damage to your lawn or driveway (or extra fees for overfilling). Basically, if you’re manually walking stuff to your dumpster and tossing it in, you’ll be fine. But, if you have machinery you’re using to dump material in, then you could put yourself at risk. Heavy materials like shingles, concrete, dirt, gravel, or other masonry blocks increase your risk even further. So, unless you have a particularly large project requiring more than just human labor, you should be fine. If You’re Not Sure, Ask Asking simple questions of your dumpster rental company before you rent your dumpster can be a great way to test their service. They should give you responses that make 100% sense and leave no room for doubt. If you are in any way confused, they either 1) won’t offer great service when you actually hire them or 2) want to squeeze extra fee income out of you. Many dumpster rental companies offer great service and don’t play any games. So, if you have any doubt, move on and go with one you trust completely. Renting a dumpster is a simple, straightforward process. And so is placing the dumpster on your property. So, now you have a guide to prepare you for a dumpster rental drop-off. You know exactly what to expect. And you can make a smart decision when you rent your dumpster. You simply give the service provider a call. They provide their service. And then you repeat. You have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that you can trust them. You may check just to make sure they’re staying up to snuff. Trust and verify! But, you know you really don’t even have to keep their service quality in mind because they give you lights-out perfect service every time. But it can be hard to find those relationships. So, here are some questions to ask yourself and your dumpster rental provider so you end up with an excellent service experience: 1. What’s Their Observable Reputation? While online reviews can be manipulated, certain services are fairly accurate. Google and Facebook’s reviews, for the most part, can be trusted. In general, the problem on those two platforms lies in companies using negative reviews to drive down their competitor’s reputations. However, business owners can challenge those unfair negative reviews and usually get then removed, although it may take some weeks or months. People trust Facebook reviews more than Google reviews, per survey by a company specializing in local search engine optimization, BrightLocal. Angie’s List can be another good source to cross-reference your quick check on Facebook and Google reviews. You definitely can not trust Yelp. It’s public knowledge that people write fake reviews for money. And you can also pay yo have some of those reviews removed. Online reviews should be part of your decision-making process. Just make sure you read them to check their legitimacy. 2. Can You Get the Right Dumpster for Your Needs? What do you need to dispose of? Is this a simple home renovation where you have to toss out drywall, shingles, and maybe some furniture? Or are you updating a sizable apartment complex, which would require a larger dumpster and likely more pick-ups? It can be hard to estimate the size of the dumpster you need. You can always chat with the dumpster rental company prior to hiring them. Generally speaking, you want 20 cubic yard dumpster if you’re doing a flooring or carpet removal for a large house. The same dumpster will work if you’re removing 300-400 square feet of decking, or 3,000-4,000 square feet of shingles. A 30 cubic yard dumpster makes sense if you’re demolishing a garage. doing major home addition, or replacing all the windows and siding on a small-to-medium size home. That also presents you with a good opportunity to gauge the trustworthiness of the company. If you feel like a number getting rammed through a process as fast as possible, avoid that company. If they take the time to answer your questions and have simpler, clear, and direct solutions, then you’re probably in good hands. 3. Is the Dumpster Rental Company Local, National, or a Broker? In the dumpster rental industry, national brokers abound. Brokers find customers using sophisticated marketing and sales processes. Then they pass you off to a service provider once you agree to terms of service. That’s not inherently a bad thing. But, you can’t get to know your service provider as well prior to hiring them. And since brokers operate on volume, they don’t necessarily have high motivation to make sure you get great service. They simply move on to another customer. Going with a broker doesn’t guarantee you poor service. But you have a much better chance of hiring a 5-Star dumpster rental company when you search locally and interact with them directly. You might also choose one of the large national chains. But they tend to charge much higher prices for exactly the same thing you can get with a local company. 4. What Budget Do I Need to Have Available? Dumpster rental costs can vary by company. Some hit you hidden fees to squeeze a little more profit from you. Others have clear pricing structures with all fees disclosed up-front. Aside from fee structures, you need to analyze your own budget and needs: What size dumpster do you need? Will it need to be picked up several times over the course of weeks or months? Do you have materials you need to dispose of that can’t go in the dumpster? How heavy is debris you need to remove? 5. How Frequently Do I Need My Dumpster Rental Picked Up? Will you fill your dumpster every day? Every few days? After a week or so? Having your dumpster picked up increases costs a little. But more importantly, you need a company you can trust to show up on time, every time. So, you’re wise to consider this question carefully and take your time analyzing multiple company’s reputations as best you can. 6. Does My Dumpster Have a Weight Limit? Filling your dumpster too full can result in additional fees. It can also cause damage to concrete and asphalt surfaces. You don’t want to find yourself damaging your customer’s property, angering them, and then having to pay to fix it. Most dumpster rental companies enforce a weight limit. In a very rare case, you may be able to find one that doesn’t. If you’re not sure how much you can put in your dumpster, that’s a conversation to have with a dumpster rental company prior to hiring them. It’s yet another reason to talk to several and get a sense of how much they care about your working relationship. 7. Do I Have Materials to Dispose of That a Dumpster Rental Company can’t Remove? All jurisdictions have their regulations as to how you can dispose of various materials. Some things, like batteries, paint cans, animal waste, fuel, and medical waste can’t be disposed of by dumpster rental companies. Those materials can’t end up in landfills, or they’ll be stuck with big fines. And then those fines get passed on to you. So if you have materials your dumpster rental company can not remove, ask them how you do dispose of those. It costs you a little more money. But, better that than a pile of fines and local government riding your tail. Ask yourself those seven questions before hiring a dumpster rental company. It’ll help you make the best decision so you end up with a great relationship you can trust. How much more complicated has it become to live your daily life since you were younger? Unfortunately, renting a dumpster isn’t as simple as just tossing everything that you want. If you do that, you could easily end up with some nasty fines. We’d love to let you put whatever you want in your dumpster. But regulations won’t allow it. And it’s a nice thing to do for the earth’s health too. So take a minute to learn exactly what can and can’t go in your dumpster, and where it should go instead: Paint This one’s a bit of a mix. First, you have to determine whether you have oil-based or latex paint. You must be 100% certain which kind you have. Because, if you throw away paint you shouldn’t, that leads to fines. The first problem you’ll encounter is that it takes months for your paint to dry out. It has to be dry to dispose of. Simply add kitty litter, sawdust, or a commercial paint hardener (which you can find at hardware stores or online) to your paint to quickly accelerate the drying process. After it hardens, then you can decide what to do. If you have oil paint, or if you’re not sure what kind of paint you have, then take it to a hazardous waste facility. If you have latex paint, you can put that in your dumpster or your trash after it hardens. Latex paint can also be used again if you want. Simply mix it with a newer latex paint of the same color. Tires Tires can never go in your dumpster under any circumstances. Fortunately, they’re even easier to get rid of than paint. Check with your municipality and see if they have a bulky trash collection event. Many have at least one such collection day per year. Make sure you specifically ask if tires can be collected during this event (which they usually can). If you can’t get rid of them that way, or if you need to get rid of them sooner, then simply contact your local landfill. Again, make sure you ask and confirm they accept tires. They’ll likely charge a disposal fee also. But at least your tires will be gone. This map contains all the landfills in Texas , along with their contact information. If you have lots of tires to get rid of, you may need to hire a scrap tire transporting service with the capability to handle them all. Batteries There are three kinds of batteries: Single-use Rechargeable Auto Single-use batteries can be thrown away in your dumpster or garbage. But ideally, you recycle them. By “single-use,” we mean pretty much every battery you’ll use in your daily life: AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt. “Rechargeable batteries” doesn’t just refer to the rechargeable AA or AAA ones that might first come to your mind. This also includes all the batteries in your various devices, such as your laptop, smartphone, or cordless power tools. These batteries contain mercury, cadmium, lead, and lithium, all of which harm the environment. Recycle Nation can help you identify exactly where to take your rechargeable batteries. Auto lead-acid batteries cannot be disposed of. Whenever you purchase a new one, the store is required to take your old one. If for some reason you have some laying around, you can take them to a hazardous chemical disposal facility or any place that recycles metal. Always call first just to ensure they will take your battery. But, even better, Auto Zone will give you a gift card to their store for your battery. The lead inside your auto battery is worth a little money to them! Household Chemicals or Empty Chemical Containers How you dispose of these depends somewhat on your municipality. Yours might have an annual collection event that allows you to dispose of your household chemicals. Follow this link for a list of all municipalities to find out whether yours holds an annual collection event. Contact information is included too. When you ask about a collection event, make sure to drop the term “household hazardous waste” so the person you’re talking to knows what you’re talking about. “HHW,” as it gets called, can include: Corrosive cleaners like lye oven cleaner and drain cleaner Fluorescent light bulbs CFLs Auto fuel Mercury Pesticides Pool chlorine Wood stain or varnish If a collection event isn’t available, simply search “hazardous waste disposal” to find a facility near you that will accept your HHW. Now if you have empty chemical containers, those need to be recycled. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recommends that you “triple rinse” each container before recycling. Animal Waste Think your dog poops a lot? Dogs alone produce about 900,000 pounds of waste during the year just in North Central Texas alone! Now, add to that all the other kinds of pets people own too, and think of all the waste they make. Unfortunately, though it seems like you should be able to, you can’t toss any of it in your dumpster rental. You can either flush your animal waste down the toilet (just make sure to dump it out of the bag first) or wrap it in a bag and put it in your trash. Propane Tanks Propane powers a lot of good times with your family and friends. But what if you find yourself with an old propane tank or two you need to get rid of? Well, don’t just toss it in your dumpster rental! Like so many other incorrect disposals, it can result in fines (or harm to people or the environment if not disposed of properly). Instead, you’ll have to drop yours off at your local hazardous waste facility. Not Sure How to Dispose of Something? Just Ask! We talk about the most common things you can’t dispose of all over our website . But, that’s not necessarily a complete list. If you have any doubt about what you’re going to dispose of, make sure you ask us . We’re happy to help you learn if you can dispose of the unwanted material, and if so, where it should go. If you do dispose of something you shouldn’t, fines can result. And you could cause serious injury to people and the environment. So, please just ask for help. It’s simple, fast, and keeps you, others, and the environment, safe! Local Businesses | Blue Star URL: https://bluestardumpsters.com/blog/pros-and-cons-of-dumpster-rental-brokers-vs-local-businesses/ Pros and Cons of Dumpster Rental Brokers Vs. Local Businesses Leave a Comment / Dumpster / By Blue Star Dumpster In practically any, if not every, industry, you have companies who directly perform the service and companies who resell other company’s services (brokers). For example, you have insurance brokers, mortgage brokers, and so on. Brokers aren’t necessarily always a bad thing. But that doesn’t make them a good thing either. It depends a lot on the industry and how the broker actually works within it. If you decide you need to rent a dumpster to get rid of your stuff, you do have both brokers and local businesses to choose from. But with dumpster rentals, brokers tend to not be as good as hiring a local dumpster rental company homeowners and small construction companies. And here’s why: How Much Do Dumpster Rental Brokers Really Care About You? Dumpster rental brokers know that if they can hide the fact that they’re not located in your area, you’re more likely to hire them. The thing is they can be out of town, out of your state, and even out of the United States! So, let’s say they connect you with a lousy dumpster rental company, and you end up with just plain awful service. The dumpster rental doesn’t show up on time. You get odd charges on your billing statement. And when you call to get any of this fixed, it’s a real fiasco to get a hold of anyone who cares to help. Well, how much does the broker really care? And do they even have any incentive to care? They can simply move on to other customers without worrying about any real harm coming to their reputation. If a local dumpster rental company gives you poor service, it hurts their reputation. You leave a bad review online that they can’t remove. Or you tell your family, friends, and coworkers in the area so they don’t use that company. Clearly, local dumpster rental services have much more reason to care about their relationship with you. You Pay More, But Get the Same or Less Since brokers spend time marketing and selling dumpster rentals to you, they need to make money. And remember, the local dumpster rental service needs to make money too. Since they both need the cash, only two things can happen: They charge the same combined rate as a local dumpster rental company would by itself. They charge more than local dumpster rental companies do for exactly the same thing. Now if the broker and dumpster rental company charge the same combined rate as a local dumpster rental company usually does by itself, that means the local service now must somehow find a way to perform their service at a lower cost. Honestly, delivering a dumpster can only be done so fast. No one has a secret technique that greatly reduces the cost of the service. Amazon has flying delivery drones (not yet in service) and a patent for a flying warehouse. But, no such similar thing exists in the dumpster rental industry! So, that means that, at the very best, the dumpster rental company with a broker sending them business has to cut corners to make money on the deal. And in the second scenario presented above, you pay more for the same level of service you can get locally anyway. In most cases, you end up paying 10% – 100% more for exactly the same dumpster and service that you could get when working directly with a local provider. So, brokers, for homeowners and small construction companies, just don’t make much sense. Communication Has a High Risk of Getting Confused or Lost Entirely Surely you’ve played the game “telephone” at least once or twice. If you haven’t, you and a group of friends get together and pass a message on from one person to the next. Someone starts with a message. Then they pass it on. And on and on the message goes, until it gets to the final person. Then the person who created the message reveals their message, and you compare it to the message the last person has. Every single time, the last person’t message is nothing close to the original message. The idea is to show how communication works with multiple parties, and to have a good laugh when the last person reveals a ridiculous message not even close to the original. Well, brokers work the same way. In a brokered deal, the broker is a middleman and does all the communication with the actual dumpster rental provider. Not only do they have to know exactly how to communicate with this particular service provider, but they have to know how to do the same with many others too. So, that means your odds for having the price misquoted, service details messed up, or your dumpster rental not showing up when you need it skyrocket. The more parties involved, the more likely that mistakes will happen. When Dumpster Rental Brokers Do Make Sense, and How to Identify Them Dumpster rental brokers do make sense for large, national construction companies. They can be helpful in coordinating projects running throughout the entire country. So, they’re not all negative. But for consumers and small and local businesses, brokers usually don’t make much sense. And since brokers know this, they try to conceal the fact that they’re a broker. How do you spot them? It’s pretty easy when you know what to look for: They use an 800 number rather than a local one You may not even be asked for a phone number at all. They might just have you contact them via an online form. Their website may ask for your zip code. Brokers may take several days to get back to you. Local dumpster rental companies will prominently show their local address and phone number on their website. Or, you could just ask them straight out where their headquarters are located and if you could take a look at their dumpsters. If you have any doubts as to whether you’re talking to a broker or local service provider, then you’re probably talking to a broker! So, for homeowners and small or local companies, dumpster rental brokers don’t make much sense. Now you know why, and how to spot them. It could mean you end up having to work from home for periods. And that might mean more homeowners undertake home improvement projects. Many of those require a significant amount of waste disposal. That’s where it makes sense to rent a dumpster. Rather than making multiple trips to a landfill that cost you a ton of time, you simply fill up your dumpster once and have it hauled away. Take a minute to learn more about various home improvement projects where dumpster rentals come in handy: 1. Any Interior Remodeling Project Remodeling always creates a significant pile of waste. Some projects can fill even large dumpsters. It really depends on the extent of your project. Without a dumpster, you have to worry about where you’ll put all that waste while you try to give your home the look you want. Waste can get in the way of the work and delay the timeline for completion. You might be able to fill your garbage, but it’ll be stacked full for weeks while you gradually toss everything out. Better just to get rid of it all in one fell swoop! 2. Yard Landscaping Projects Yard waste such as grass and bush clippings can go in your dumpster. Feel free to toss tree branches in too. Old bricks, other masonry blocks, and concrete may or may not be able to go in your dumpster though. Check with your dumpster rental service first. But, assuming everything can go in your dumpster, that saves you an awful lot of disposal time. 3. A New Deck Who doesn’t like a new place to relax? Depending on your workplace’s policies, your deck might be your office for some time in the future too! Can you use your old deck boards for campfires for months to come? Possibly. It depends on what they’re made of. If you have green, pressure-treated wood, do not burn it either outdoors or in your fireplace! That releases toxic chemicals. It also produces less heat and more smoke. Plus, it also creates creosote, a gummy (and flammable) substance that can coat the inside of your chimney. However, you can dispose of green treated wood easily and conveniently in your dumpster rental. Not all deck boards are treated with chemicals. But if you’re disposing of them, know exactly what you’re getting rid of so you do it safely. 4. New Roofing Your roofing contractor will more than likely rent a dumpster when re-roofing your home. It just makes so much more sense for them to toss all the old shingles in the dumpster than it does for them to go to the landfill multiple times. They simply throw the old shingles in immediately after they’re pulled off your roof, saving walking trips to the dumpster. 5. Spring Cleaning You will feel amazing, like you haven’t in years, when you organize and consolidate the stuff you own in your home. You don’t necessarily have to dispose of everything. But ask yourself, ”When did I use this last?” or, ”Does this have a special memory or emotional connection I treasure?” If you answer “No” to both of those questions, then you can get rid of it. Selling stuff online takes a lot of time. It’s worth your time to sell higher-cost items that may be $100 or more. But selling lots of little items, like you would at a garage sale, takes so much time. You have to create the product listing online, pack and ship each object, and then do customer service. You could also go with a garage sale too. But that takes time also. And you don’t know how much you’ll get rid of. When you’ve eliminated everything else via other means, a dumpster rental makes so much sense. Simply walk everything you don’t want and toss it on in. 6. Garage Cleaning Here, you have to be a little careful. Some of the stuff in your garage can likely go in your dumpster rental. But some can’t. For example, car fluids, gas, grease, paint, batteries, tires, and appliances can’t go in your dumpster . Check with the dumpster rental company before disposing of those and similar items in your garage. But, you can toss out many other things such as tools, old patio furniture, a garden hose, work gloves, flower pots, nails, screws, and much more. How You Can Minimize Waste Around Your Home For some of the above projects, you can’t do anything to minimize their waste. Your deck, roof, or other remodeling project will create the waste it creates. But you can keep the amount of your general stuff low so you don’t find yourself overwhelmed with things you don’t need that just cause you more stress anyway. And here’s how you can keep that stuff in check: 1. Take an Inventory And Put Stuff To Use Knowing what you have is most of the battle. When you know what you own, then you can figure out how to make use of it. If it’s a decoration, make sure it does its job and livens up your home. If it’s a functional item, put it to work. It does you no good just laying around. If it’s a keepsake you need to store, organize it in an appropriate container so it stays safe and so you know how to access it in the future. If something serves no emotional or functional use for you, get rid of it. 2. Toss It When Done Whatever it is, get rid of it when it’s served its useful function. If it’s something you’re holding onto which provides only questionable value in your life, ask yourself why you feel the need to hold onto it. Be honest when answering. And remember that if it really doesn’t help you in any way, you’ll feel great by getting rid of it. 3. Go Paperless Many companies still rely on sending you junk mail to advertise. You can’t do anything about that. Send their junk straight to your recycle bin upon receipt. But with the current consumer services you do have (banking, smartphone, electricity, water, and so on) go paperless. Store old statements online in the cloud (there’s plenty of free services). And with your other important paper, scan it and put it on the cloud too. Then shred and recycle the documents . Not only does this reduce the paper floating around your home. But it’s also easier and takes less time to organize electronic documents than paper ones. For example, in cloud services you can name your statement March-2021-Electric-Bill. Then, you can search for that exact bill using the cloud service’s search function. It’s like having an electronic file cabinet and being able to find any document you can think of in seconds! Whenever you get overwhelmed with junk, you can always rent a dumpster. It makes disposal of a large amount of stuff fast, easy, and cost-effective. And in the meantime, do everything you can to keep your useless stuff under control. You’ll feel so much happier and relaxed.
